A Revolutionary Roof Rack Mount Carrier for Single Paddlers

One of the great things about kayaking is that virtually anyone who can dip a paddle into the water can be successful at it, but some paddlers who make the leap to owning their own boat, and thus having to transport it themselves, can find that without the help of a second pair of hands or a certain amount of upper body strength, it can be difficult to lift and lower boats to and from their rooftop racks. Lifting and lowering can also sometimes be a strain for even two pairs of hands in the case of tandem boats. The Thule 897XT Hullavator Kayak Roof Rack Mount Carrier changes all that with an ingenious lift system that allows virtually any single paddler who can raise or angle their boat only a few feet off the ground using a grab handle can secure their boat all the way up to their roof rack in minutes without any help.

The Thule 897XT Hullavator features retractable double arms mounted to your roof rack and an integrated gas-assisted lifting system. The two arms contain cradles and integrated support with eight padded touch points and the aluminum double-coated steel construction. Together these serve as the cradle for your kayak and work with the gas-powered lifting system to lower the height the boat will need to be raised to eventually secure it on your roof rack up to 40-inches. Following installation, a squeeze of an outward facing handle extends each arm individually down the side of your vehicle. Once both are down users can either lift the boat straight up from the outer edge of the cockpit, or carefully lift the boat up at an angle and into the rear cradle by its front grab handle, then lift the boat from the rear grab handle and push it forward until fully supported by and centered between both arms. Once your boat is secured to both cradles with the included straps, attach the bow and stern tiedowns with ratcheting hooks at the end. Now, simultaneously squeeze the handle at the end of each arm to activate the gas-assisted lifting system and the retractable arms and the kayak will rise to the top of your roof rack. The gas-assisted system provides 40 lbs. of the lifting power needed, with you providing the rest as needed with a gentle push. Latch the retracted arms to the carrier with a downward pull of both handles and insert the pin-based safety clip to ensure it stays in place. Finally, attach the ratcheting hooks at the ends of both bow and stern tiedowns to your vehicle bumper or tow hook and pull the free end of the rope to the desired tightness. Unloading a kayak is just as easy with steps repeated in reverse, and again, only requiring a single person.

The Thule 835XTR Hull-a-Port Rooftop Kayak Carrier is the right kayak carrying solution for paddlers whose concerns in a carrier are split between efficient use of space on their roof rack and ease of use. Designed around two J-profile Hull-a-Port carrier assemblies, each attached to a roof rack load bar and containing four adjustable touchpoints of padding, the 835XTR allows kayaks of all shapes and sizes to safely lean on their sides, with the cockpit facing out. This vertical stowage position is safe, aerodynamic and secure in transport and poses no danger of warping to boats when they are stowed correctly. Vertical stowage and transport also efficiently uses the precious space atop your roof rack, allowing for up to four 835XTR Hull-a-Port Rooftop Kayak Carriers to be used at once on certain vehicles, or leaving room for other roof rack accessories to share space with the 835XTR. Easy, Nearly Tool-free Installation

Thule's Universal Flat Top Ski and snowboard carriers are designed to be compatible with virtually any existing roof rack, including all Thule rack systems, round bars and most factory racks. This wide compatibility makes for an extremely simple installation, possible in minutes using only the included wrench tool, a few pieces of mounting hardware and your own two hands. To install to an existing roof rack, select one of the two flat top carrier assembly pieces included with the carrier. Rotate the top portion of the carrier's mounting clip to a perpendicular alignment. Two of these are integrated into the bottom of each flat top carrier piece. Position one of these vertically on one of your roof rack's crossbars, with the lock pointing to the side you wish to access skis and boards from. Finally, secure each end of the flat top carrier piece to the crossbar with the bottom mounting clips, screws and wrench provided. Align the second flat top carrier piece in the same way, with the lock end pointing in the same direction.

The Top-of-the-Line in Thule Fork Mount Technology

The ultimate in fork mounts, the Thule 518 Echelon Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier raises the bar on fork mounts with its new, improved ETC (Equalized Twin Cam) clamping system. The Echelon features a centrally-located cam lever, and a new ergonomic adjustment knob that allows rapid loading and unloading of bicycle, for the ultimate in ease of use. The Echelon fork-mount rooftop bike carrier fits all disc and suspension combinations with standard 9mm axles. This bike carrier has a dual-lock design that locks both the bike to the carrier, and the carrier to your rooftop rack. The wheel tray fits tires up to 2.6 inches wide with high-profile rims, and carries bicycles with wheelbases up to 48 inches. This system fits both Thule and Yakima load bars, and is Thule One-Key System compatible so you can easily keep it locked and secure without a bunch of extra keys. Please note, locks are not included.

Installation and Use

The Echelon comes nearly fully assembled, requiring only the included hex wrench and your own two hands to easily assemble in little time. Installation begins with the combined Echelon head assembly / wheel tray which provide the base for securing a bike's forks (head assembly) and a stable mounting platform for you back tire (wheel tray). Following some simple preassembly to these components, users have just to attach the head section and wheel tray to their rack's load bar with the hex wrench and included knobs as well as the included mounting plates and other hardware that allows for square or rounded cross bars. The Echelon is now ready for your bike.

To load your bike remove the front wheel and stow it in your vehicle. Next, open the head assembly cover/clamp exposing the pressure dial at the tip of the assembly. Loosening this dial creates initial space along the skewer running through the head assembly that your front fork's dropouts connect to. Now, place your bike's fork dropouts onto the skewer ends evenly on both sides. Adjust the pressure dial to ensure a firm but not overly tight hold on your dropouts, then close the cover/clamp partially. Correct clamping pressure occurs automatically when half way down the cover/clamp's arc you feel resistance. If you feel this, everything should be aligned correctly and you can fully close the cover/clamp. If not, repeat for the best results. At this point Echelon owners who have opted for a One-Key lock, sold separately and installed into the head assembly, can lock their bike to the carrier and the carrier to the rack simultaneously. A ratcheting wheel strap is provided to secure the rear wheel to the wheel tray and includes an adapter for use with road bike wheels. To remove your bike simply remove the wheel strap you installed, unlock the lock on the head assembly (if installed), lift the cover/clamp and remove your bike.

Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier Specifications

The Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier combines quality construction with great looks, and holds up to four pairs of skis, or two snowboards. The Flat Top installs quickly and easily, but does require the Xadapt2 or the FM1 when used on an Aero bar.

The Thule Flat Top ski carrier has locking hoods with oversized push buttons for easy access while wearing gloves, and is designed to have snowboards carried base-to-base for maximized carrying capacity. This rooftop carrier includes all the hardware needed for mounting to Thule load bars, and is compatible with clamping systems (sold separately) for mounting to factory rack systems.
